Post Helmets: where to buy?

Looking for a helmet for Auto-X, DE's. Who sells them for a good price. Anywhere in Los Angeles (South Bay area) where i can try them on, etc?

Thanks

Mike,

I can't help you with LA sources, but you're absolutely right to go where you can try them on. They all fit a bit differently. When I got my current helmet, I tried 3 brands on - first just didn't fit well, second I got on and damn near didn't get off, and the third worked (Bell M2, also good for glasses).

Doesn't Simpson have a store in the South Bay? Why jump on the 405 and shoot over to Van Nuys to Performance Products.

If you want to keep your teeth and jaw in case of a major impact, you may wish to consider a full face helmet.

Don't pinch pennies on a helmet, or any safety equipment for that matter. Buy the best that you can afford.

And BTW, PCA and POC will not allow motorcycle helmets in their events.

Be safe!!! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

Be carefull buying helmets at the motorcyle shops, those will be either DOT rated or Snell MA rated (motorcyles).

As I applied for DE's I noticed that some clubs are insisting on Snell SA 95 or later, meaning it is a motorsprts Helmet ( main difference being that it is flame retardant, also less comfortable than a motorcycle helmet some say). These are more expensive but could save you some big hassles for getting into certain DE events.

Some clubs want helmets less than 10 yrs old, so I went for a Snell SA 2000 which should last me until 2010.

OGracing.com a good on line source.
