Post Battery and alternator for 68'

What are older 911 owners doing about batteries? Trying to find a battery that fits a 68 or older car is like pulling teeth. It would be nice to get an old battery that fits for concours shows and a better unit for actual driving. Looking for suggestions.

Do the later alternators work on the earlier cars? Mine has a 34 amp and I'd like to upgrade to something a bit beefier than that if possible.

Thanks!

Ken

Ken,

Porsche standardized it's alternators on the 1982+ variety. If I go to the '68 alternator (901.601.113.00 Motorola 840w), it's been superceded with 3 parts: 911.603.120.04 alternator (with embedded regulator - you no longer need an external regulator), 911.106.008.00 fan housing, and 911.106.033.05 hub extension. The hub extensions aren't made anymore. When I upgraded, I used the hub extension I had and cut a small notch in the plastic to fit around the regulator - very easy to do.
