Default Reported millage versus real millage

Hi Guys:

Checking the millage on cars for sale noticed that the sales ad shows the same millage as the millage on the carfax/autocheck report but the funny thing is that the millage is for several years before tha actual date the ad was posted.
I think that the actuall millage should be the one the odometer shows at the posting of the ad not the one reported several years before.

There needs to be a reasonable paper trail, and the odo needs to work. These cars are kind of strange in that one owner may drive 20k miles per year for 3 yrs, the next owner 3k miles per year for 1 yr, and the odo may have broken after 1 yr of previous ownership, then fixed by the next owner and sold as correct mileage. This example would be 40k miles off! I think this is a bigger problem than odo rollback on these cars. If the condition of the car, paperwork, ppi don't jive, back away.
