Default Shifter boot for '82 SC Targa?

Drove an '82 Targa Sunday, low miles, Pacific Blue. The interior was also blue (ncluding the dash), but I noticed that the "boot" that covers the shifter was one of the leather (vinyl?) types I've seen in 3.2's, not the low, "accordion" rubber type that I've seen on all other SC's of the 80-83 vintage. It went al the way up to the shift ****. Is this because of the blue interior? Was it an option? Or could this be an indicator of the shifter being replaced? Owner says the car is all original. Thanks in advance for any opinions!

If you look underneath the leather boot, you'll probably find the rubber accordion type boot.
