Default Re-build

Hi guys:

Does a re-build has to be done at a specific millage, depending on the 911 model or when there is a need for it?

Does the type of driving, racing, daily driving, weekend driving, etc. determines how soon the engine has to be re-build?

All sorts of factors involved such as how well its maintained, how its driven, how often its driven, what type of engine, even the climate. Also if the engine has been rebuilt in the past, how well it was rebuilt and the quality of the components used.

Hi:

Generally speaking, one rebuilds the motor when the leakdown figures get bad or when oil consumption reaches 600-700 miles per qt.

Racing will shorten the life of the engine but proper maintenance is THE most important factor in determining how long it lasts no matter how the car is used.

As usual Steve is spot on - you don't say which 911 and age, this can influence when it is time to start looking for the points raised by Steve - some of the 911 engines are more prone to wear than others .

Thanks for all the tips but noticed a big enphasis on many, many comments about the time to re-build, re-build more than once and things of the like which made me think that re-build was a mandatory repair after an specific millage, etc.
