My wife drives an 03 Cooper (non S), 5-speed with the Sport suspension. While no Honda in terms of reliability, it has been a very good car, now with 40k miles. Any issues (failed battery, power window issues, premature wear of the leather on the steering wheel and seat bolster) have been cheerfully taken care of under warranty. While no hot rod, the handling and overall driving experience makes up for any shortcomings. The car is used mostly for commuting, and a few occasional long trips, where it proved to be a good highway cruiser at speed. In fact, it feels very solid going down the road at 90. The hadling (and ride for that matter) are go-kart-like. It is much more than a cute economy car - it has BMW DNA, and puts the driving experience in front of all else. I highly recommend taking one for a spin.
