Post VIN# on a older Porsche.

How many numbers are in say a 75 911? Would this one be valid 9115211320?

I got this froma owner on a car I wanted to check up on, but it looks too small. There aren't any letters or anything. Also I tried to do a car fax report and the VIN# was invalid.

Back in the 70's, there were no letters in the Porsche VIN numbers.

That serial number is for a 1975 US model 911 Targa.

Is there anyway to run a background check? The car is too old for carfax.

William,

You could try the DMV in the state where the car is presently registered. Other than that, I have no other suggestions.

You can try calling Porsche Customer Service at 800-PORSCHE. If they have the records, they can tell you what options and colors the particular 911 was delivered with, as well as if any recalls are outstanding. About the only way to track the history is if there have been detailed records kept along the way, and available for review.
