Default SC front bumper rubber replacement

I've seen lots of talk about removing the rear bumperettes but has anybody replaced the black rubber piece on the front bumper? Am I correct that the piece is held on by just two screws? It seems that you could fabricate a piece of aluminum sheet metal to fit flush to the bumper filling in from blinker to blinker and be painted to match and then you would have a much cleaner look.

Anybody done this and have any pictures?

Thepiece is held on via friction between the rubber and the slot that it rides in. Two Philips screws retain it in that position. It's purpose it to give your paint a break in the event of a bumper conflict,--let the rubber take the hit rather than the painted surface of the bumper.

There's nothing to stop you from doing what you suggest, except the need to periodically keep up with it when others bump into you, or after 1000 miles of road chips have accumulated on your little aluminum strip there.
