Well, I am NOT in the market for a new Porsche, I have 2 993 cabs right now.
BUT, I am a sucker for Silver/Black and literally down the street is a beautiful (cosmetically) 1986 Targa for sale...
As I am not familiar with the 80's Porsches, so I am not sure if 1986 is a good year...
Can anyone offer some info on the 1986 targas (or 1986 in general)? I am HAPPY to search, but I am having trouble with a specific query string to pull this info...I am also happy to read if someone has a link to another site with this info...
To save some keystrokes for anyone responding, I know targas leak, are less rigid, I will get a PPI, ask for records etc...all very valuable advice, but I am really just trying to get a sense of the 1986 vintage..
Thank you all...

As I read through past posts, I noticed one poster mention that he was looking for a 87-89 Porsche...is this a date range in which not much was changed? Which leads me to believe that from '86 to '87, there were noted changes...
Thanks again for the help...

The only major change before the 964 was the tranny. the 87's and up have the Getrag transmission with the hydrolic clutch, where the 86 has the 901 transmission.
Good year, but the best year is 19..............................

In 86' I believe they changed the following. Newer vent design in dash, front seats lowered 20 millimeters, sport seats were a no cost option, larger anti roll bars front and rear, larger rear torsion bars, 3rd brake light and shortened gear shift travel. Sunvisors w/vanity mirror too!
Info from the 911 Redbook.
86' didn't have a 901 tranny, it's a 915. G-50 is in the 87-89' cars and some people love those.
