Default Tire recommendations for 15" wheels?

I see in some previous posts (and in the owners manual for my '84 Carrera Cabriolet) that the stock tires on my car were 185/70R15 front and 215/60R15 rear. I have the optional wider 7" and 8" 15 inch Fuchs on my car. I guess later models used the same size wheels with 195/65R15s on the front.

Tire rack doesn't give many options for replacement tires in the stock size. In fact, I just bought the car and previous owner put 205/60s on the front which I think appear too large... I think a slightly lower profile in the 205 size is needed.

Anyway, the tires on my car only have a couple of thousand miles on them but are horribly flat-spotted from sitting for a couple of years and I want to replace them.

Can anyone recommend some tires and sizes to use on these stock rims?

I don't plan to drive the car at the track... at least not yet. My current concern is getting some smooth tires for street use.

I've had really positive experiences with Kumhos on my previous cars (Protege5 and BMW 525iT) especially given their prices, but I can't seem to get any matches for my Porsche on Tirerack.

I like the idea of going back to the factory recommended sizes but it appears that there are few performance tires made in these sizes anymore. I would guess that it's the narrow and tall front tires that are the issue. On the other hand, would moving up in width on the front but not the back compromose the balance of the car?

How about 205s on the front and 225s on the rear? What aspect ratios is recommended?

Thanks!

Hi:

You can use a 205/55-15 on the front and a 225/50-15 for the rear that works very well. A 205/50 is small and some people think looks lost on an unmodified car that cannot be lowered much.

Look at Toyo, Dunlop, etc..........

As Steve said, there are options available. After spending hours & hours searching posts here & on Pelican, I came to the conclusion that 205/50 or 205/55 in the front & 225/50 in the rear seem to be the chosen sizes for 7S & 8s. I chose Toyo whose T1-R tires are very, very good. See the separate thread about Toyo. Pic below is 205/50 & 225/50. Ride ht 25 1/4 fr 24 3/4 rear with stock suspension.

Anyone use the Pirelli P6000 recently? Tire Rack has these in the original sizes... they say that they are closing out the fronts in the 195/65 15" size. (wow, these are narrow and tall by modern standards). I assume that the P6000s aren't the latest and greatest and wouldn't shine at autox or the track, but how are they in terms of street performance and noise?

I've looked at the tires in the 205/50 (front) and 225/50 (rears) which seem to be available in a lot more brands but these all seem to be much smaller diameter. Even 55 series tires are getting hard to find though these would be closer to the original diameter in the same widths.
