Ernie: A recent post regarding correct caliper piston positioning (the 20-degree step) could be the cause of your noise. Also, have you checked the dates on your brake fluid hoses? If they're older than ten years they should be replaced. Many times, during a physical inspection, brakes may seem to be "free," but that's not always the case. Your mention of a subtle improvement when touching the brake indicates that you probably (1) have inferior aftermarket brake pads, (2) have a caliper-related problem, or (3) have a fluid hose related problem.
