Porsche mechanics in Huntsville, AL? 100k service
I'm looking to take my '87 Carreran in for service. Anyone know a place in Hunstville that is pretty reliable?
Also, my car's got about 100k, what type of service am I looking for?
Thanks in advance!

Check through the Heart of Dixie Region PCA.
Also I think Jim Watson is just outside of Huntsville on Tennessee border - he might just be doing 356's but could have a referral.
KED isn't this your neck of the woods?

Yes, it is (but not a red one). To parpahrase one of my favorite movies, "... you shoulda been here LAST week..." (Endless Summer). We had a tremendous turnout of enthusiasts for the DixieTech sessions w/ the PCA technical committee brain trust (Bruce Anderson, Joel Reiser, Jon Lowe). Dale Miller's briefing on his restoration of 908/3's was absolutlely world-class & eye-opening. Closely examining one of them (of 13 in existence), and listening to its 9000 rpm, 3 liter, twin plug, normally aspirated, flat 8 powerplant was indescribable. It was VERY nice to have a Carrera Speedster & 904 presented as well. Plus the parade of 356's that honored us driving down from Nashville. Did I mention Scott Sharp's talk (thank you Futaba / Joe Dorris!). What a "gentleman & pro" - plus a real sports car enthusiast (good bloodlines). And Mike Valentine, Joe Cogbill, Billy Mitchell, Jim Watson...
Warsteiner draft? Brats & Knocks? (authentic, not "Jimmy Dean") Beautiful weather? Excellent organization? (I had nothing to do w/ it...).
What was your question? Oh, yeah - Porsche service in Hsv? Well there are a few, Paul Byler (Paul's Auto Shop, 256-880-1685) has been in Porsches for decades. There are other possibilites, email me w/ specific services needed & I'll advise you.
At 100K miles there are many things that one must be thinking about, question is what HAS been done, when, by whom, etc. etc. Seems that around 85-110K is a watershed for the '78-89 911's... It is time to determine if "you are in it for the long haul". I am at that point on my '87, having 90K now.
However, why come here if you are in Atlanta? Cogbill's there, plus Franz Blam, etc. & others that I don't even have a clue about... Billy's Eurasian Auto in B'ham is an excellent independent shop - he is a serious Porsche enthusiast AND expert (930 daily driver). I've known Stan Zangel for many years (personal friend, now Service Manager at Tom William BMW / Porsche in B'ham, w/ tremendous expertise & professional standards + a BMW Motorcycle expert of world class), can't leave him out.
One reason to drop into Hsv. is the Space & Rocket Center; Two Saturn 5's (you like big engines w/ giant turbo-pumps?), a Saturn 1B, Space Shuttle, all the other rockets, great US Army rocketry displays, Werner von Braun's legacy materials (hmmm, so THAT's partly why they are so crazy about German cars, culture & people in "Huntspatch", the highest concentration of techncial professionals & PhDs in the US (SMSAs of around 300K pop.)), an SR-71, IMAX theater, tour of the original test stands for the Redstone Rocket on Redstone Arsenal...
Enough of the Chamber-of-Commerce stuff (but if it weren't truly nice, this & many other transplanted Yankees & Euros wouldn't live here) - think about DixieTech Feb. '03. Let me know if I can help further...
