Post Threw a rod !! 1982 911 Targa

My buddy from work has a nice 1982 911 Targa with about 110 K miles that was running great until it threw a rod (#5 piston) As a Porsche enthusiast (see my car below), I am trying to give some good advise. Any suggestions welcome. The local shop is saying it will cost a minimum of $6000 and about $9000 if given a proper rebuild. The cars value is about 12-15 K running, so he wants to know if its worth rebuilding, or offering the car as is for about 3-4 K. Thanks for your expert 911 advise !!

Find a nice 3.2 from a Carrera, have it inspected and install it! Price will be 4 to 8K maybe. He can also go crazy and drop a 3.6 but would cost a bit more.........

Not a big deal, I have a 3.2 on my SC

David: does he want to sell the car without the motor? I would like to put another V8 project together.

FYI,

I think I just counted 2 3.0 engines for sale in Pelican classifieds. No relation to me at all just FYI.
