Default bad internal thermostat

82sc US model

I have been having a problem with overheating as stated in my past post.

I finally pulled out the internal thermostat to test it.

I heated up some water and it started to open at 200 degrees F and only opened up to half way at 208 degrees F. When I say half way the bottom port where the thermostat opens only opens halfway. At that temperature should it open all the way?

What is the proper way to test an internal thermostat?

Kevin; It's been many years since I've tested one, but I think that it's supposed to open all the way at about 180 degrees F. FYI: always use an oil bath for test purposes, it's easier to control the temp.

I am going to try this in oil. I have a hot plate i can take out to the garage. I am wondering if it does open completely and at what temperature? I couldn't get above 208 with water of course.

I am wondering if this could be my overheating problems?

It was the problem for me. I just had mine changed. The old one didn't start to open until around 210/220. The new one opens at 180.

Good luck.

I checked it in oil last night. It doesn't start to open until about 210. I am hoping this solves some of my problems with overheating.

Thanks for the response back.

I am hoping to get the thermostat today but due to family obligations i wont be able to install it until Monday.

If this solves the problem I will reply back with the results next week.
