Trip to Northernish Vermont
Right after the Labor Day weekend , I will be making a trip to Shelburne VT. from NYC (with my wife) - Tho my mechanic has given me the Green light and the car is running well, I think it may be wise to have a short list of good Porsche mechnics from here to there - ( I think i asked this VT. question once before, but have lost the answer).
Route will be up the NY thruway/northway to Lake George/Fort Ann, then across thru Whitehall to Route 4 , then up 22A thru Vergennes/Fairhaven.
I'm not expecting a problem, but w/ the wife along, I guess some sort of back -up is always wise (she loves the car , so I'm trying to keep that way)
TIA

What year is the car? Model?
I personally feel that as you wind up driving an older car you better have some personal skills with automobiles. You better not count on having a network of 'trusted mechanics' along the route because, frankly, that is nearly impossible. I hope you're handy with a timing light, a dwell meter, and a few wrenches.
Ironically, many people just love the looks of the older cars but are at a complete loss in how they run, putting them in a very precarious position when the unexpected happens.
If a gearhead you're not, at LEAST carry a copy of the Porsche Panorama
magazine (from the Porsche Club of America) that has names and phone numbers for region presidents, etc. Those folks are the ones to call at 10 pm in Stowe, Vermont when the car won't budge or you need a tire mounted.

Driver8 -
thanks for the info, just a little more security - (FWIW. I've made this trip several times before w/o problems, and I think i have the name of another well respected Shelburne mechanic in the car...).
Anyway, I'm hoping for nice weather and an enoyable drive thru VT. -hope you get to enjoy your car as well (mines an '86 Cab)
thanks again...
