Default Fixing ET 3rd Brake Light....

I have obtained a ET 3rd brake light that needs a few minor repairs and a good cleaning bwfore I can use it.
I need to know what type of plastic the housing is made of, and what is the best type of epoxy to use to re-attach the thread insert back to the housing(which has a few cracks on the interior braces that make it stay together.)
I'm inclined to run a straw through the base (for wire passage) and pour epoxy around it to fill the base entirely, then recreate or re-attach the thread inserts.
Has anyone ever fixed one like this? What did you use?

Also, are they generally painted body color or are they all black?
I've noticed that if the top of the rear deck grill is black, then the light was also.
I've even seen black ones with a body colored deck grill.

Which is original or correct?
Which one looks better?
BTW, tail is a factory turbo type on a narrow '84 Carrera. (if there is significantly differring opinions, I would like to see pics of the different methods if possible.

As always gents...
Many Thanks!
