Default R-12 Refrigerant

Does anybody know a service shop in the BOSTON AREA that will service my(1990 928 GT) A/C with R-12 Refrigerant? Recharged it 3 weeks ago. Ran very cold up until this weekend . Must have a pretty good leak somewhere.
Thank You in advance for any help!!

Is it that difficult to find places to recharge R-12? I would think that Auto HVAC shops could easily handle it. Look in your yellow pages for a auto HVAC shop. I had found one a few years ago when I lived in Westchester NY.

You could do it yourself if you get the license and buy a set of gauges.

License test website www.epatest.com section 609 license about $20
good place to get AC parts www.ackits.com

buy the R-12 from ebay once you have your license. It is what I did

my mechanic put in Freeze-12 which is a derivative of r-12. Works great.. ICE ICE COLD. it cost about $20 -$25 a pound.

Here in Canada I am pretty sure it is illegal to have a car recharged with R12 ... I think there are quite a few subs available though. Any AC shop should be able to fix your problem and recharge with a good substitute. For me it was a bad evapourator.

I have converted to R134A but just the compressor and receiver/dryer changed. I've just ordered barrier hoses/evaporator/'procooler' (better receiver/dryer) from Rennaire. The R134A works ok (except during THIS 100F/95% humidity I'm driving the Mini instead) but old hoses are allowing the R134A to leak out. I've got enough to get me through the rest of the summer, then will replace hoses/components/leak test/recharge R134A next spring. From everything I've been reading here and pelicanparts forum about Rennaire (from folks in Texas and Arizona) I should be good to go for NC.

Make sure you replace all the O rings on all connections if any in the system. R134A is a much smaller molecule than R-12 and the current O rings will not hold it in.

Thanks, I'm fairly certain new O rings come with the hoses, but I'll verify that, and change them if they're not part of the delivered stuff...
