1989 911 Cam oil line
I took my 1989 911 for an inspection and the tech informed me the driver side cam oil cooler line was leaking. I was told the part cost $50 + labor. Does anyone know what the part cost and what it would take to replace this line by myself? Pictures on how to replace the part would be very helpful.
Thank you in advance!!

don't know what a cam oil cooler line is unfortunately. maybe someone with more wisdom can respond. There is an oil cooler line, a cam tensioner oil line. but other than that I am lost . part sounds pretty cheap anyway .

thank you. I did some looking for parts and found a Cam Housing Oil Lines & Hardware at pelican parts. The pictures make it look like a simple replacement. I will find out what lline is leaking when I pick up the car and replace the line when I get the car home. The tech referred to it as the cam oil line.

Shouldn't be too hard to replace just the line. Whenever I've done these it's always been in conjunction w/ the chain cover gaskets and the cam seals behind those, and that requires removal of the muffler and engine sheet metal, but if you're just doing the driver's side line both ends are above the sheet metal, should be able to do it easily. Make sure you use the right size copper copper crush washers (new ones!) on both sides of the banjo fitting for the bottom connection, and make sure they crush! Good luck.

Jeff,
the oil line in it self is quite simple to change. You just have to pull out the distributor, and the pipe from the engine compartment blower to the heat exchangers. Without doing that it is virtually impossible.
Good luck.

Is this the part you had to replace?
I have an 85 Carrera engine. Mine is dripping when the engine is running at the junction to the left of the hose section.
Vertex has this as a Porsche Cam Oil Line Left Camshaft Carrera for $25.00 and part #93010734704.
Has anyone replaced this part and what do I need to do? This is the 2nd time I had to replace this (about 5 yrs ago).

That looks like the right part. These are a common oil leak, and I suppose that having to do it twice in 5 years isn't a shock if aftermarket parts are involved. Just be careful not to cross-thread any of the fittings when you install the new line. Get the banjo bolt and both flare ends started before you tighten anything all the way down. FWIW I have never had to remove the distributor to replace this line, but I would imagine it would make it a bit easier.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I will probably remove the part and bring it to the dealer to compare to a new one. It's $75 more, but if it is a newly designed part maybe they now have corrected the weakness.
Any dealer people on this site who can comment on why it was changed?
