Need some help on a decision...
For my black over burgundy '84 Cab:
• 17" Cup 1 wheels, black w/ burgundy trim ring
• 16" BBS weave wheels, gold centers
My gut reaction is the BBS wheels, as nothing screams '80's to me like gold BBS wheels. However I already have the Cup 1s. One was dropped face-first on the driveway by my son as he was "helping" me put them on last year, so it needs to be refinished. I don't like the look of the silver cups on the car. The cups' coating would be cheaper than acquiring the BBS wheels, and the cups are wider in the back than the BBSs are.
Thoughts?

I have a set of 6 / 7 x 16 black Fuchs, but the snows are mounted on them. I think the Fuchs are a nice design on non-black 911s, personally. The cost of getting some decent 8's or 9's was prohibitive to me. I don't like the Fuchs I have enough to send them out for customizing.
I have a set of 6 / 8 x 16 '92 C2 5-spokes in silver, which are on the car now. I like the look of the design of these wheels more than the others.

For me it depends on the look I am trying to acheive like you . I have a brown car which was typical of the 70s, At that time the guys put on the ever popular BBS rims , and I think the Gold BBS on the brown car make it look sharp and period correct, If not oiginal. I am not sure what color Fuchs my car would have come with but I am pretty sure they would have been brown 15's ... and I don't thinkit would have looked as sharp.

ice: The large majority of '78s came with optional 6/7 x 16" Fuchs wheels, finished with a satin rim and satin black centers including the paddle faces. The standard wheel in '78 was a cast alloy finished in silver, 6 x 15 (F), 7 x 15 (R). It was extremely rare to find customized Fuchs wheels, such as brown centers/paddles, chrome treatments, etc., in '78 - that started a few years later. BBS wheels, however, have been around seemingly forever, and most were finished with the gold honeycomb. I used to maintain a black Turbo, with black-centered BBSs, that car at the time looked pretty outrageous. I had Fuchs wheels (6/8 x 16) on my SC Cab that were finished with chrome rims and paddle faces, with black shadows. The car was dark blue metallic and looked really sharp. Fred: I personally like Fuchs wheels better than all others on pre-964s, but you're right - the cost of 8" rears (which I want to do to my SC) is bordering on prohibitive.

Guys, thanks for the opinions, much appreciated & feel free to keep them coming - gives me new things to think about!
Jeremy - thank you for the black Cab w/ polished Fuchs, that is pretty sharp. It'd mean coming up with a pair of wider rears, but geez, that's pretty nice to see.
