Old time aircraft mechanic was walking by when I started up my 86 911 at the airport and got the smoke cloud.
He said try a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil from WallMart. I did and no smoke for the last two weeks...........Huge difference.
Got a lot of help from this board so wanted to pass this on.

I would be a litte concerned about why the smoke stopped. New Porsches smoke right from the factory. The reason is that in a flat six the oil sits in the valve train and drips into the cylinders when not running. As soon as you start her you need to burn off some of the oil. Providing you only smoke on startup, there is nothing to "fix".
My fear is that the "Mystery Oil" could be alterning the flow characteristics of the oil which could lead to engine failure if oil passages get clogged. Most of those "Mystery oils" prevent blow-by on bad rings or valve seals which, presumably, is not the problem with you car.
If I were you, I would get that stuff out of your engine ASAP!

I wouldn't be so quick about getting Marvel out of your engine. I've used it in the past, with good results. Here's a link to the website. I'd check it out and draw your own conclusions.

What weight oil are you using?
A 10w-40 will cause more start-up smoke than a 20w-50. And a synthetic oil like Mobil 1 will exhibit less start-up smoke than most dino oils.

Marvel mystery oil has been a fix for a lot of minor problems in engines for year. It lubricates and gets in areas where oils may not go. I've used it for almost 45 years in many applications. I think for a 20 gallon tank you shoud use half a pint. Just follow the directions on the can. Most of the Marvel Mystery oil dissipates over time.

I agree with Roamer. Given that oil is the life blood of our engines, I can't see a need for any additives. A puff of smoke on startup is normal, as he mentioned.
For those who have used it in the past, are you using it in your Porsche engine today? If yes why or if not, why not. Just curious.....

I've had this "problem" on my '87 for the 6 years I've owned it. I found the smoking occurred usually after my car had sat un-driven for a long time (2-4+ weeks). I've had my 100,000 mile engine maintenance done and have been using Mobil 15W50 non-synthetic oil for the last 2 years and the smoking hasn't occurred in recent memory.
