Question tire width?

I am in for a new set of tires...and since I don't have the funds to go out and get the 7 x 16 wheels, what size tire can I fit to my 6 x 15 Fuchs? They have the factory os, +23 I think. I am looking at several brands at this size 215 55 15. Thanks.

H.D. I had the same size wheels on my '76 and I put 195x60-15's on it. Option would be to go to 205x60-15, but a 215 may be a little big....it depends on the space under the wheels. You may have to roll the lips under the fender if you go to too big a tire. With the 195 and 205's, I autocrossed a lot with no rubbing , etc.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info.
I currently have 195 65 15 and there seems to be quite a bit of clearance room. I was thinking the lower hight ratio (55) would allow a higher width. Can a 6" wide wheel hold a 215?

Love San Antonio as well...lived there for 8 years at Randolph AFB.

Hi,

I just looked at my wheels and I have 205-60-15's. The fenders are not rolled and they fit without rubbing.

Thanks HarryD...that's great info and so far that's the best tire size I have been able to locate. What brand tire is it?

HDSmith

I am using Toyo Proxes H4. These are a multi purpose tire. They are in the extreme low end of a performance tire but ok for my needs.

As another point of info, my '67 912 had the same size tires (Falken's of some type) and had a slight rub.

Regards,

Harry
