1974 911 targa or 1970 911 targa? I MUST CHOOSE
Ok guys, I have a dilema. I currently own a 1974 911 targa, a little rusty, a pretty undesirable year, black on black. I could buy a 1970 911 no motor and tranny but complete clean pink ready for motor and tranny. If I throw my 2.7S motor and 915 tranny, do I have a car more likley to sell for a higher amount than my 74 left as is???
Thanks
Nathan

The 1974 911's might be the best of the 2.7 liter cars. The motors weren't saddled with as much of the emissions stuff as the later cars and had the earlier style exhaust.
Yes, I can see how the '70 tub with your motor might be worth more than your '74 as is. But, dumping the 2.7 into the 70 tub might limit your market of potential buyers of long hood cars since I would expect most buyers would not want a 2.7 liter motor in their long hood car just due to that motor's bad reputation.
The best thing might be to sell your '74 for whatever you can obtain and then find a correct period motor/drivetrain for that '70 tub. That'll give the most value. However, that'll probably be the most expensive route as well.
Hope this helps a little,
