Default Oil pressure switch question

I removed the oil pressure switch (so I can replace it). I also thought I'd remove the base and replace the sealing ring. When I removed the base, there was a blue ring of "glue"...hard (almost like a epoxy). I'd like to reuse the base, but I can't seem to get all of the "glue" off, in order to remove the sealing ring. Should I just replace the base and ring? Did the factory put any sort of glue/sealant on these originally? Should I use any RTV sealant etc...when I replace the base?

slot: No, no sealant required. Just one aluminum washer between the base and the crankcase. Do your best to clean the area, I know how frustrating it is when you come across something like that that makes life difficult!

Thanks Pete...that glue material will not budge. I'm going to order a new adapter base (only $8), and replace the sealing ring as well. I'll make sure to clean both surfaces before replacing.

go to a parts store and tell them what the problem is - they will sell you some special solvent

use gloves; glasses or goggles & a fan!

it will be some really bad stuff
