is this 911S Euro a buy?
I have recently found a 1976 911S Euro model that I can pick up for $7500. However, is the euro model really that rare? This one also has a door tag that reads 1976 911 S on top, yet on the year mfg below it says 1985, what is with that?
thank you all, I am a n00b BMW gearhead

it was federalized in 1985.....no they are not that rare....just rare on this side of the pond...76 is not one of the most popular years for many reasons....and being grey market makes it less desireable for some....as far as the price goes....there are way to many variables to consider that aren't given to determine if it is a good price....

Larry, if you are considering an old 911, the issues are; physical condition of the chassis (rust? accidents?) and its mechanical condition (a proper motor rebuild could = the purchase price). this means you need to learn as much about its history as possible & have an expert(s) perform a PPI. I also suggest you get a buyers guide like Pete Zimmerman's. good luck.

body is great and mechanically the car is very sound, idles and starts perfect. It has all receipts, no rust, no accidents, and teh interior is great except the factory radio was replaced. Has been repainted black, which it was originally however

During PPI can have leakdown and compression checked to help evaluate piston ring and valve guide wear, as well as inspect underneath. That gives you more peace of mind. And know it will require service/upgrades, some service you can perform yourself if you are patient.
Good luck.
