Default over fill?

I just changed my oil and I think I may have over filled with oil by 1.5 quarts. When the engine is warm the oil needle shoots all the way up and sticks. While I am driving the needle is at about half way. Should I be worried about this possible over fill? I was thinking about using a fluid evacuator and draining it out of the oil tank.

Forget the gauge, what's the dipstick say - warm, idling, on level ground? If you're overfilled remove oil ASAP. You can use an old fashioned suction gun - stick the hose into the reservoir through the fill pipe. Do not drive the car with too much oil in it!

I went back into the garage at work and let the car idle for about 5 minutes. Oil temp is at warm level. I checked the dipstick a couple of times and its right at the high level mark. not over it. when i changed the oil I put in about 11.3 quarts. Seems to be ok i guess given the dipstick marking.

NO SIR! It is not OK, with a barely warm engine the level should show below half, even close to the minimum line! 11.3 quarts is way too much - is your car an SC or Carrera?

Hold on there, oto! Listen to Pete ...you are overfilled! Oil level should ONLY be checked with the car hot hot hot (I prefer stinky hot) and not just warm; and trust the dipstick ultimately (the guage is an "indicator" but not to be trusted in the final analysis if you value your engine ...and income). By the sound of it, you are about 1 quart overfilled. I'd suck out about that amount and save it should you need to add some back in.

I went out at lunch time and drove the car around for about 20 minutes and let the car. At this point the car is hot hot. I checked the oil with the dipstick about 5 times and the oil level shows right at the high mark. once it showed a tad bit over the high mark, but barely. I will use a fluid evacuator and take out 1 quart tonight. I just hope I did not do any damage to the car driving the car like this for about 70 miles. Thanks for all the help.
