Default 78sc found my first rust.

well I was washing my car last night and while wiping down the rubber/ plastic piece along the bottom of the door opening and noticed a decent sized "bump" about 3 inches from one end , peeled back the glued down rubber cover to have a decent amount or rusty crap fall out. I rubbed it with a cloth and was surprised to find bare metal ery quicly and it was solid. I think wha I probably need is to remove the strip on both sides clen it up , paint it. and glue new strips back down, any one know what these strips are called or if they are available?

Thanks.

Ice, I just removed mine from the '84 Cab, replaced with the stainless door sills I found on eBay. I kept the rubber seals, if you get stuck.

I believe Pelican does show the rubber door sill trim available, from memory.

Thanks Fred.

Mine are all glued down , can't see how to remove them without ruining them , or I would just reuse my own ! do you glue down the stainless ones also ?
thanks again.

On mine, the rubber was glued down, but the piece is removable without destroying it (came off one piece, it's a pretty thick strip). The stainless sills double-sided tape down to a clean, glue-removed surface after the rubber ones are removed.

I kept mine as I've been keeping EVERYTHING basically from this car, down to the O2 sensor I just replaced. Who knows, maybe the next owner will get a kick out of the box o'crap, uh, I mean, "original" parts. :-D

Perhaps this could help....maybe a hair dryer and a plastic putty knife. Heat might loosen up the glue....I'd clean all the old glue off before replacing the new seal.

The problem with those things is with the channel. When the rubber, over time, begins to shrink a bit the water will get into the channel and then sit.

Clearly the ten years Porsche corrosion warranty is not unlimited. But it is pretty good.

Don't try to hed it off. Just submit a new order. I hosed myself once by trying that and it took two weeks before Pelican realized they never sent the extra part with the first box.

I have found that both WD-40 and Wurth rubber care seem to help soften the glue before applying heat. They are both gentle enough solvents to not damage the paint.

Maybe you could use a razor blade to get under the rubber, and then use the blade to dissect the rubber off the metal. That 3M adhesive remover works very well to get rid of any glue. Daryl on the board is an expert at dealing with rust, ie what paints to use. I think his handle is "DarylID". Here is his website of his restorations:

See ya bud,
