Thinking about selling my 911??

Do not sell now. I can tell you, my wife and 2 daughters love the 911. (2.5 and 5.5 yrs old). I sold my 911 2.4T only when I knew I was buying the 964. My own agreement with myself has been to "own a 911 at all times", then upgrade when it feels right. I am in the most stressful part in my life (2 kids, schools, demanding work, little time with friends etc etc), then you really need a hobby-car to rest your thoughts on every now and then.

I once sold a great Audi Coupé Quattro because my wife didn't like driving it. Man, have I regretted this... It was a super car to drive, and would almost be a classic now... ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Before you sell it, make sure that is what you want. So that you later don't have to

A) Wife hates the 911, thinks it's the ugliest car ever, it's a stick, and I spend way too much of my attention on it, and even when it's broken I still go on about how much I enjoy it.
B) Sold my Electric Blue '80 Cutlass w/ Rocket 350 in it for the wife when we got married. She thought that was the end. I replaced it with an '86 Monte Carlo, which I then went through & made my own over the next few years. Got rid of the MC when the wife said it was time to get a sedan for the family, etc... bought a Taurus SHO 5-speed, dropped a built block, Vortech S-trim, etc etc into it, and $48k later...
Moral of the story: You are who you are. If the 911 is who you are, don't sell.
C) I wish I could add yours to the stable next to my black '84 Cab, btw. Nice looking coupe!

Any car I think is hard to sell. There are a lot of tire kickers out there who just want to drive them and it is hard to distinguish who they are. Also having to keep the car extremely clean, be at the buyers beck and call, and then they expect everything to work as new when it left the factory. Tough job with a 20 year old car or any cay for that matter.

Now you guys are going in the opposite direction!
The other side of things is that owning a luxury car (and a 911, even when paid for, is a luxury )is no where near as enjoyable if you have financial concerns, or if the cost will keep you from doing other important things in life (down payment on a house, etc.). Really enjoying a car like a 911 to its fullest requires a clear conscience and a full wallet!![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
If you sold a car like that, pocketed $17K or so, leased a Honda Accord for 3 years at roughly $300 a month, there is no argument that in the short term, you have much better cash flow, and no threat of unexpected repairs. Perhaps that helps get you to a place in three years where you pick up your next Porsche with far fewer financial concerns.

It's funny... as I was comtemplating selling mine, I knew I'd probably get rid of one of my vehicles, either the Jeep or the 911. Jeep's my DD and has barely over 35k miles on it. Porsche was just a weekend car, and had 67k miles on it. I posted the question on both this forum and the Jeep forum I frequent... fully expecting each to respond saying to keep the one that forum focused on.
What really happened.. .the Porsche forum responded as most here have... 'keep the Porsche'. the Jeep forum responded exactly the same way. It really surprised me.
As I noted before, I ultimately sold the Porsche since I knew I'd ultimately sell it to buy a different one anyway. The Jeep, at it's current rate of mileage, should be good to go even when my son is old enough to drive so I'll likely keep it forever.
You have to do what you have to do.... If this is your dream car... I think you'd be better off keeping it. If it's not, go ahead and sell, but before you do... start laying the groundwork for the next one. I did that with my wife while we were dating... Wanted to make sure if it went anywhere (as I thought it would) that she wouldn't be surprised when I said... "I want to spend a good deal of money on another car that you'll find impractical and probably won't like".

congratulation....
touch decision, but I´m married with 3 kids and I still got my 911
it´s an 85 carrera in very good condition, it´s dooable to have a wife and a 911
If you don´t have to sell financially and if you don´t want to sell it then don´t... you will probably regret it for many years if you do. It´s a very beautiful car you got there

Off topic (sorry) but that is a really great picture in your sig. The perspective of the tail makes it look enormous, and almost detached! The sky at dusk looks cool, too.

Macho hoopla aside, it is a bad thing to do at the start of a marrage. You are liable to hold resentments for something that (you) think that you are compeled to do.

PLEASE do not sell the car. There will be many many many more reasons that will present themselves to sell the car as you move along in your happy married life, and the few reasons that do present themselve to buy another 911 will be easily overwhelmed by the practical aspects of life as a couple. The 911 is what you are and what you bring and you really do not sound like you want to lose that, and neither should you have to! Cheers!!

I say keep it. I plan on my first 911 in the next year. it is going to take that long just to get my wife to agree. If I were still single I would have bought one yesterday.

If you decide to keep it, this might make you feel a little better/safer. Since months now, many coworkers especially my director told me that I will have to let my "baby sport car" go when my son comes out. Well, he came out 2 days ago and I still have my "baby sport car"... well, but I can't tell where my time goes
