Question 911 sitting for 12 years...

I just got off the phone with a guy selling an 83 coupe. Said it sat for 12 years but has 150,000 miles on it. Seems odd. Has been driven as a daily driver for a few years since it was raised from the dead.
2 questions...
1)He said it doesn't have upgraded chain tentioners. What does it cost to do that work?
2) if a car had sat for that long and been raised from the dead, once the gaskets were all changed out and any other problems caused by the coma sorted out, is the car as good as one that had been driven all along?
I know there is a lot of room for speculation in that question. It seems like it would certainly not be an asset. I don't know why he brought it up actually. When he said it I cringed, but I figured the rest of the story would be it only has 50,000 miles and everything is mint. 150,000 miles and a second paint job? Just thought I'd ask... Thank you all! or yall since I'm in Raleigh. But I'm from Long Island... so I should say you's

Mike,

Chain tensioners run around $700-$800 to install, parts and labor (parts are roughly $350-$400 plus 5-6 hours of labor).

This one doesn't sound exciting. Unless the price is something you can't say no to, I'd want a very thorough PPI, including a body shop check, and detailed investigation into it's history. It's a buyers market, I'd probably keep looking....

If you haven't already, you may want to check two PCA sources: go to www.pca.org, and on the right side click on regional directory, and go look at those regions websites within traveling distance at their classifieds. Not all have them, but many do. Another source are the classifieds on the www.pca.org website.

Just looked at the PCA web site, and they show 20 911SC's for sale. If you're a PCA member, there is usually a good selection listed in Pano.

He is asking $15,900.00 TOO much.
I think I am close to the one I will buy anyway. I looked at it today. The seller is a PCA member and porsche driving instructor. we drove and talked about the car for a few hours today. It was his daily driver. Well maintained 79sc. pretty much stock besides repairs and upgrades. It needs paint. the original paint is about gone. He knows a porsche body man that is in the circle of people he has met along the way and part of our deal is for him to help me get it painted properly, windows removed, new gaskets and whatever it takes, before I get it home. He has been really helpful and willing to help me get the car to where I want it to make the deal. I think I could be in it painted for $14,500.00 I think the price is right and having him to consult about the car in the future is worth quite a bit to me. So as long as the PPI goes well, and I am fairly confident it will, I won't be posting crappy Ebay cars here anymore! I promise!
