Sorry about that. I should have said G50--not 950. Don't know what I was thinking...or if I was even doing so. I guess I was confused--for lack of a better word--by the part number for the rubber-centered clutch disc which I had just typed in response to iceman's question. That part number begins with 950. Thanks, KC911, for coming to my rescue with the upside down "G" interpretation.

dshep806, I have the Porsche Service Bulletin in my 88 Carrera folder and will have to look for it. When I find it, I will scan the pages and put up for all to see, hopefully later today.

ice: Better late than never, eh? Seriously, Porsche has supplied only a spring center disc for 915 cars since the early '80s. Joe's 915/G 50 thoughts are right on the money.
Spider: If I remember correctly the '87 required the installation of a rubber band at the base of the shift lever. We did that to a few cars that had lot's of gear noise, and it actually helped. I guess that the G 50 cars are now old enough that that rubber band (more like an o-ring) has broken, and should be replaced. It'll be interesting to see if you can find your bulletin, I don't have one.

Although my G50 has never had a rattle, I've since removed this piece when I installed a euro premuffler, still no rattle. Are there other parts (rubber o-ring) to this solution that I wasn't aware of? Thanks!

I'll check my sources for mod history, as well. This will surely help me better understand (in the end) the reasons for the noise differences between (otherwise) the same G50's...probably an additive effect of several components? Alas,...some actual pieces, serving a purpose/result...should make for a great educational read.....
Pete: what were the results of this "rubber" ring addition, mechanically-speaking?
Thanks, in advance (Spider911) for you upcoming upload.
This group is great!!

Guys, I'm trying to load the data, but it says I have 996kb and am only allowed 146.5kb. I'll try resizing or taking picures of the pages and will get it to work somehow. I'm not a computer geek, so bear with me. Thanks.

I hope these pictures took. The bulletins are self explanatory except for TB 8802. There is a second rubber "O" ring that used with a plastic tie takes slack out of the "O" ring and reduces the rattle. I didn't have a kit since they were NLA, so I just found parts and did it myself.

Spider: Thank you! I remembered the o-ring at the shifter base, but couldn't recall the rest of the "fix."
dshepp: Tongue in cheek reply, "I don't know, but I think that it holds the whole mess together!" Seriously, I don't know why it works, but it does. After that bulletin we used to joke about putting a rubber band on something when we were faced with an unusually tough problem.
