Question Can someone explain how the air gets heated in a 91 964

Can someone explain the route the air takes to get heated in a 1991 964? Also can someone tell me where the heat exchangers are on the engine. I get a buring oil smell once the car gets hot, but no smoke comes in the cabin. I am trying to figure it out. Thanks.

Think of it this way, water cooled cars have "exhaust manifolds", air cooled Porsches have "heat exchangers". Essentially you build a metal box around the headers, and blow air in one side and out the other. The exhaust pipes get really hot, so the air is heated and then pumped into the cabin to warm your feet.

My 911 has the best heater of any car I own, from a getting heat fast standpoint. If the engine is running, you have heat, right now. That being said, your heat exchangers are under your engine, and it is common for oil to drip on them and cook off. This is probably where your smell is coming from.
