Default Nagging Issue

Hello,

I have a 1980 SC that has developed the following issues.

1) The car starts fine, but the tach needle jumps around for about 20 seconds (even though the idle is fine). Durring this 20 seconds the engine will not respond to any throttle input. After this period of time the car run fine.

2) When I use the headlights and come to a stop (car settling to idle) the headlights will dim a bit untill I give a little gas. Every one in a while I will also get the jumping tach needle at this time as well. The car seems to idle just under 900 rpm.

The only recent changes to my car are a new battery and starter.

Has anyone out there had problems like this? Anyone know of a solution???

Thanks in advance for any input!

I was half expecting a post looking for advice about how to deal with "nagging" over the cost of parts or mods...

maybe check your coil connections? On my 964 I had either a bad coil or coil lead causing a christmas tree effect on my dash. only happened with the lights on. Replaced them both and haven't seen a warning light in about 6 months. Different symptoms and different cars but worth a check.

Have you checked your voltage regulator?

Volt meter at battery with motor running at 2,000 should get a voltage of 13.2 or so.

boy i hate to point out the simplest possibility, since you recently changed the battery double check to be sure your conections are tight, good luck
