Default convert targa to coupe

Does anyone know if a roof from a wrecking car(in my case a 964) can be welded and fitted to a 1978 targa?

Anything can be welded to anytihng with enought money... but the header, rear fenders, probably the side windows, and interior trim are all targa specific, so you are looking at a pretty major project IMHO... much cheaper to sell the targa as is and buy a nice coupe.

Another option if you just want more of a coupe look is the Pelican Parts fibreglass roof - you can see it on my '81 SC Targa here:

I saw from some link which I can't remember right now that someone did just that and as I looked at all the pictures and details, I noticed that even though he was doing it, it was not even worth it, I mean, the work it took was breathtaking to say the least. And he did a marvelous job too. But still, He could have gotten a roller coupe for $3000.00 and swapped all his parts and saved about $3000.00. Don't forget you still need the roof. I think there is a reason you don't see it done more often. You know? When I get the link, I'll pass it on, BA

The economics are totally different if you can do the work yourself and don't factor your own time into the equation.

I deffinatly agree, I mean, if I didn't do the work and sourcing of parts myself, I could not do the porsche thing. But how much time does one guy have? I guess if you not married, don't have kids, or a job that requires you to work, then maybe.

Yeah, I meant the other way round. Buying a rolling chassis and shifting everything across may be practical for the type of guy you describe, but for anyone else it's going to make more sense to either sell the Targa and buy a Cab or - more cost-effectively - convert the Targa to a Cab. In the UK, you pay around £2500 and add about £4000 to the value of the car.

I agree with you. More cost effective to get a new car.
