Default Refinish 16 X 7 Fuchs

My newly purchased 1978 sc has fuchs which are in dire need of painting on the centers and needs tires badly which are cracked. I am debating on painting black or possibly White to match the car myself along with the calipers or hiring a professional too. My car is a true daily driver no garage queen, just needs some tlc after last owner lost interest.
Any opinions or other possible rim exchange sources would be appreciated.

Secondly, anyone who has done this project themselves who can recommend a very good brand of wheel paint.

Lastly, Tires I might want to consider for replacement.

Hi, I had the same issue on my Carrera. There is nobody on the planet that restores Fuchs alloys as well as Wheel Enhancement in Culver City, Ca. If yours are straight you can ship them to WH and have them restored. Or you can buy a reconditioned set from WH and send yours in as the core charge once you receive the new set. This way you have no down time. You will be very happy with their work, they've been doing this for decades, nobody even comes close to their quality of work. Google them and talk to John, he's one of the owners.

Personally I used Rustoleum Semi-gloss black....Satin Black is a perfect match for factory finish...I wanted something with just a bit of sheen....Did mine last week.

You probably need irfinview to shrink the pic enough that it will upload.

I hardily second FlyingLow's opinion. Dave at Wheel Enhancement has refinished three sets of 16x9's/16x7's for my Turbo, a set of 15x7's/15x8's for my dear departed 74 Carrera and also sold me a set of SportTechnos for my Cayenne. I enthusiastically add my endorsement for the team at Wheel Enhancement.

Harvey Weidman and Al Reed are both very well respected Fuchs' wheel re-finisher's. Harvey refinished mine and I'm very happy with the results.

I think nicely finished white Fuchs wheels with a white car are one of the ultimate Porsche combinations.

I agree. One of the few cars where this actually looks right.

I just repainted mine and used the paint stripper called "Aircraft Remover". Bought it from Advance Auto but sure anyone has it. That stuff is like majic - the old paint will just peel off. Be careful - it strips everything - even your hands. I painted mine with Rustoleum Satin Black #7777. Looked great!

I refinished some used wheels for my wifes Bug Cabrio using first a file to get some scratches from the outside lips, then polished with sand paper starting course and then fine. The next step was scotch brite pads and then posihed with Mag polish. Cleaning the wheels with degreaser, painting the black and polish after the paint was completely dry with the mag polish again.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the replies I am having the fuchs professionally painted, and seriously considering the painting them white and doing something different with the center caps possibly polishing like the rim.
