The steel shaft that actually locks your steering wheel is incorporated into the ignition switch assembly...which is actually two different parts.
I'm not sure you can remove the ability to lock the steering shaft without removing the whole ignition assembly and having it turn out looking like a "botch job".
Would a replacement of the locking assembly cure your woes or urge to remove the assembly from operation? I know, it's expensive!
