Any suggestions for removing some of the nuts from the exhaust manifold on a 964 or 911 ? One nut on either side defies a socket -- socket fits, but without a handle. Is their a special tool for this?

I believe the nut is a 13 mm? If so, you can purchase a distributor wrench from Sears, Snap-on, etc. These wrenches are of a deformed "J" or "L" shape, and have the 13 mm box end on one end, and a long "J/L" shaped handle to allow the box end to slip under the heat exchangers and provides leverage to loosen the nut.

Just completed this task on my 82 SC and the nut is a 13mm but the old one was swollen with corrosion and I couldn't get a 13mm socket on it. I think I used a 1/2 inch socket that fit a little loose but worked. The other nut on each exhaust port is an 8 mm allen nut. You can use a long allen wrench with a small cheater pipe or Performance sells an allen socket for this purpose. Use lots of penetrating oil!
