Polar circumference (distance around the earth through the poles)—24,859.82 miles (40,008.00 kilometers). Equatorial circumference (distance around the earth along the equator)—24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kilometers).
--and that's the rest of the story--

Since light rays travel parallel to each other, we get pairs of congruent
angles. With the central angle measuring 7.2° and the length of the
arc between Syene and Alexandria 787 km we can write the proportion:
7.2 / 360 = 787 / X
therefore X = 39350 km, the circumference.
Convert this value to miles: _____________________
Find the radius and diameter of the earth: (use C = 2*Pi*r )
radius: _______________ km ______________ mi
diameter: _____________ km ______________ mi
WAY too much useless information....
