The problem is that you might have paid someone for a car that he didn't really own. I would either register the car with all the supporting (incl wire transfer instructions and bill of sale) docs asap (and see whether there are any problems) and/or contact he previous seller to clarify the stuation. In most states you only have 30 days to register a car. I ran into a similar problem when I purchased my car, where the title was in the seller's wife's name - and they were divorced. Good luck!
