What is a good basic repair manual for '87 to '89 911s?
I hope to be able to do simple maintenance and repairs (tuneups, oil changes, accessory replacements, some electrical diagnosis, possibly valve adjustments- if not too complex or difficult in access). No intention of doing any heavy rebuilds (transmission, engine).
Performance Products has a Carrera Service Manual for $120. They also have Haynes Workshop Manuals for $21.
Are the Haynes adequate, or is the Carrera manual work the extra bucks? I assume that the Carrera manual is not an official Porsche service manual.
Thanks.

The Bentley manual is the one to have, especially for what you want to do. You don't need anything else until you start doing really serious work. Then, get the factory workshop manual set.

Yup, Bentley. Period. It's around $90, less if you can find it used, but worth every penny. The others are nowhere nearly as comprehensive or clear.

The Bentley manuals are better than nothing but don't compare to the Porsche workshop manuals for the 84 to 89 911. And you should pick up a copy of the Porsche Specifications Manual for 84 to 87 911.
