Default HELP!! O/2 SENSOR WIRING AND PLUG LOCATION 84 EURO CARRERA

HOPING THERE'S SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM: I'M GETTING READY TO REPLACE MY REAR SHOCKS ...PULLED THE D/S REAR WHEEL AND "PRESTO" I'M LOOKING AT MY O/2 SENSOR WITH THE WIRE POINTING AT THE REAR CALIPER..LOL! I'M NOT SURE THE THING WAS EVER HOOKED UP TO ANYTHING..I'VE REMOVED THE TIN ON THE D/S OF THE ENGINE AND THE BACK AS WELL TO SEE IF THERE'S A HARNESS...NOTHING!
IF ANYONE KNOWS THE PLUG LOCATION AND HOW IT'S ROUTED..I CAN FINALLY GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP...OR DID THE GREY MKT. PEOPLE BACK IN THE 80'S JUST USE "DUMMY" O/2'S TO SATISFY D.O.T.? THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hey

The DME on the euro car is different. Specifically the board inside the dme.

The euro DME does not have any provision for the 02 circuit (since the euro cars did not use an 02 sensor).

So... if you want to use an 02 sensor, you have to make sure you have a DME that has the circuitry for the 02 sensor. If you do, then the next step is to find the wire to hook the 02 sensor up to (I'm assuming this is what you're asking about).

Do you know where the wire is on a USA car? (I should ask this before we go further) This will determine if the wire & plug are there or not. (if not, you have to run a wire piggy backed onto the harness to the DME... which is very easy to do.).

TonyG is correct about having the USA/Japan DME (050).
Some gray-market cars (051 DME) used an add-on box which
varied the AFM input to correct the CO based on the added O2
sensor.

Interesting. Nice tid-bit (you learn something new everyday).

On the boards that have the provision for the 02 circuit, do you know if the 02 sensor input is used in the same manner (to alter the afm input in order to alter the CO output)?

BUT...IF THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR THE O/2; HOW IS THE COMP. MONITORING THE A/F RATIO ?AND ,THIS IS A GOOD ONE SINCE THE O/2 ISN'T "WORKING"ANYWAY; HIW ABOUT PUTTING IN A CAT BYPASS?
ANY GAINS IN H.P. OR PERFORMANCE? SUGGESTIONS?

Russ L.

You don't have to remove the seat to get the computer out. It's easy to get to and get out with the seat in place.

Once you get the computer out, open it up, and unfold the boards and take a picture and post it here. We can tell you what board you have and if it can support the 02 sensor or not.

Honestly, unless you're after mileage, if you have a DME that doesn't support thet 02 sensor, I wouldn't touch it. Get a chip chip from www.911chips.com and possibly Systems Consulting put in the bypass pipe, and go have fun. The Euro 911 will really benefit from a good chip.

By the way Tony ,No, I don't know where the wire should be on an american mkt. should be either.
Now you were talking about chips...what can be done to her and what are the pro's/cons?

Thanks Russ

Forget the part numbers on the outside of the case. The case part numbers don't necessarily reflect what's inside (in otherwords... the "guts could have been swapped out).

Once you have the cover off of the computer, snap the pc boards apart at the ends where the little verticle supports are (be very careful and pull with steady even pressure). Then pull the top board out (away from the external connector) about 1/8". Then you can unfold the boards. Do not force anything.

Then "unfold" the pc boards apart so that they are both in the same plane.

Then take a high quality picture, and post it here so we can get a good looksie and advise from there.

No -

The microcontroller adjusts the injector pulse width based on whether the
O2 sensor voltage is greater or less than .50 volts.

TONY, I UNDERSTAND THE THEORY OF O/2'S BUT YOU WERE MENTIONING THAT SOME EURO COMPS. DID NOT HAVE AN O/2 CIRCUIT...DOES THAT MEAN THAT IT'S METERING FUEL JUST FROM THE AIR BOX AND THROTTLE PRESSURE [TPS] ? I WILL TRY TO SHOOT THE PICS TO YOU WHEN I GET HOME. THANKS RUSS
