Default I think I found a nice 911 for me....

It is an '87 with about 85K miles. Clutch replaced about 15K miles ago. The interior and exterior are in great shape. It appears to have been meticulously maintained.

The car runs very good. It has some small issues, which I am going to confirm with a PPI.

I would like some help on some items:

-The A/C is not cold. I am aware that this is an inherent problem in this era 911s. I spoke to a Porsche mechanic. He said that frequent re-charges could solve the problem (assuming that there are no broken or leaking parts). He mentioned that adding an air discharge fitting inside could help cabin air flow. Assuming the best situation, cost about $300 (including a re-charge).

-The spare tire was never used. We tried to remove it to find the compressor. But, the tire would not come out. Maybe the tire melted to the well. Where is the compressor located? Under the tire? What does it look like? How big?

-The front shocks are yellow. Does that mean that they are a Bilstein upgrade? The car has sport seats. Does this mean that it has a sport suspension?

-Need some help deciphering the option codes: 387 395 424 425 454 533 650.

PPI Monday. Wish me luck.

From the handy decoder...

http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp

Code Option Description
387 Sport seat - right
395 Light metal wheels - forged
424 Automatic heating control
425 Rear wiper
454 Automatic speed control
533 Alarm system

I can't answer the rest.

A/C in an 87 should be ice cold and the larger vents on the 86+ models should move plenty of air. My 80 SC that I just got blows ice cold and moves plenty of air through the factory vents plus the additional vents added just above the console. My shop explained to me that a well serviced unit and new lines, etc. should give these cars a great a/c system and they should not need frequent recharging. As a data point, a/c air in my car is ~ 35 degrees F.

1987 is a great year. Compressor is big enough to where you can;t miss it - and most fit on top of the spare.

My AC blows cold when it's charged - but loses the cold quickly - my summer project is to replace all my AC hoses - after 19 years they have cracked.

Yellow shocks can mean bilstein - or not - crawl under there and check - better yet check the receipts. More importantly - check to make sure they have all been changed out at the same time!
