Post Biggest 15" rear wheel/tire for 75 911?

My 1975 911s has standard 15" x 6" wide Fuchs wheels with 185/70 tires. I need new tires and was about to simply go for 195/65s. If I found a pair of matching 15" x 7" wheels and mounted 215/60s, would they fit? This is a "narrow body" car, so it lacks the rear flares of the mid-70's Carrera's and the SC's which followed starting in 1978... and the car is mint with original paint throughout, so I would prefer not to do modify it by adding the flares. Also, I like the look of the stock wheels - just need mire tire in the back. Thanks!

Lou,
I run 205/60s on my stock 77 without any problem. I am switching to 205/55, so I can get better tires, as 15s have a limited selection. SO3s come in that size.

I have been told by many that the 7" tires fit in the rear with 225s if you car is not lowered too much.

I keep the same size all around so I can rotate them easily. Also, I have quite a bit of understeer as it is, and bigger rears would only amplify the problem.

Hi Lou:

We have done this 2 ways:

Use 7x15 wheels and either 205/50's or use a 911R wheel, also 7x15, that with longer studs and some spacers, will permit 225/50's without raising the rear end too high.

The latter solution, although not cheap, really works very well and looks very neat as it all fits very nicely if done properly.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys.

My car is lowered and I'd like to retain the current height. I have early offset 6" Fuchs now. Is there a 7" rim with early offset, or are they all deep dish? I want to keep the look as stock as possible - think of it as sneaking 7" rims in out back, but you should really have to look to notice the wider wheels/tires... I love the 911R look, but not the price to get there...

For tires, it looks like choices are limited; I'm leaning toward Pirelli P6000s. How will these perform compared to the Michelin XWXs I have now?
