Default Sound advice needed, please

I just got an estimate for the replacement of my worn out clutch. The entire job is going to cost around $3100. Porsche parts (clutch kit=$1183 + fork update kit=$400) will tally $1583. Labor was estimated at $1540 (14 hours of work). Is this in line with what most people pay? Please advise. TIA

seams very steep to me but I must say I have never done it . I would start by searching the web for clutch kits to give you a frame of reference.

i was looking through excellence magazine there is an advertiser listing a cluthch/pressure plate/TO bearing for 87-89 911 for $475 seems too good to be true they may also have update kits equally priced, they are call Vertex auto.com phone # 866-668-0660, your labor rate also seems high, please let me know if these are true pricing, in my experience for these particular years the clutch package is usually $1100+ good luck I also have an 87

Vertex is right out of Miami down on red road somewhere. Although I have heard some things about rebuilt assemblies and some shiping issues, I think the general response has been good for parts. i have received quite a bit of stuff from them in the past albiet maintanance stuff.

The parts costs look OK for what you are getting, but the labor hours seem a tad high to me.

Racing Beat: Just wear and tear. The car has 75,000+ miles on it, original clutch, and three previous owners. Who knows how they drove it.

Thanks to all for the input. I think I am going to shop around. $1900 sits much better with me. I'll admit now (please don't laugh) I went to a dealership first.

I had a new clutch installed in my '86 and the total cost was just under $2000 at a Porsche specialty shop. Peddle pressure was greatly reduce and the clutch is smooth and solid...81,000 on the original clutch.

I had the clutch replaced in my 86 at one of the best Denver shops (Storz). Clutch kit was $584 and labor was $525. In my experience, clutch replacements usually fall in the $1000 - $1,300 range.

With an 87 - he has the g-50. You can not compare the g-50 with the 915 clutch replacement. the g-50 will cost him 40% more.

Correct JD.

Parts from one of our sponsors will run around $1350 without a new flywheel but with updated/improved everything.

How many hours should this take a decent shop. Dealer said 14 hrs.
