Option M491 Factory Turbo Look
I was wondering how to find out if a 911 had the factory option M491, the "turbo look". I'm looking at a '84 911 coupe with a turbo wide body, and the owner is telling me it's a Factory Turbo Look. The car looks good, but not 100% great. That is why I'm questioning it. Some of the things that I question are the following. The seats are the standard 911 seats, and not the sport seats that I would expect. The front fenders have a weld bead on underside (slight raise), which I thought all 930 front fenders had no welds for the flares. I could not find welding marks on the rear flares. Everything else looks correct brakes, wheels, etc. The owner has almost no records on the car. Can I tell if it had the options (M491) by looking at the VIN?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Burning Brakes
There is an options code badge on the inside of the trunk lid (i.e. the front "hood" trunk) that lists all of the options. Otherwise, Porsche NA Customer Service can run a report with options by using the VIN. You will just see "491" among the number codes.

Seats can be standard or sport just depends on how it was ordered, so the fact they are standard does not mean anything. All 911 Turbos and turbo looks built prior to 1986 had welded on fender flares from the factory. It was only 1986 and later that they were not welded.

The turbo look option was only fenders, brakes and suspension. There were no interior options associated with the M491 option. It should have welded fenders. As 2002M3Drew said, you should be able to call PCNA with the VIN and they will tell you if it is a factory TL over the phone. Have fun.
