tire suggestions,please
I have a stock '87 930 with 205/55 16 and 245/45 16 tires. I need to replace my tires and am looking for some feedback. These will be street tires with maybe a DE day or two in the future. I know the Michelin Pilot Sports are excellent but are pricey. The Bridgestone SO3 won't work because the 205/55 has a "wr" speed rating and the 245/45 has a "yr" speed rating. Bridgestone told me not to mix speed ratings as the different side wall construction may affect handling. What would be the next good choices?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can go with Bridgestone Potenza 750's. Front and backs are WR rated. Have these on my 928 and I've found them great. You can play with brand/size combo's at www.tirerack.com. Not affiliated but a fan of theirs as I get all my tires from them and they are only about 10 miles from my house!

I would suggest go with some yokohamas. I think they are just as quilty as tire as Michelin but cheaper. Granted they do have there cheap tires, along with everyother company, but they do have some really great tires. I would either go with the AVS Sport or the AVS ES100. But Falkens are great tires as well that people always seem to look over since they are on the lower side of price, but I have seen some of them that arent not made to the highest standards. IE not being the roundest or balanced out, where with Michelins it is rare to see one that is not near perfet. Just my 2 cents.

BTW I am running some Goodyears that came on the car. They are only T rated
Who would put only T rated tires on a Porsche?

I just bought a set of tires for my 1990 964 C2 Coupe, also with 16" wheels, so I just finished researching. Kumho Ecsta MX was the most consistent recommendation I got. You can order them from tirerack.com. That being, said, I decided to go cheap on tires because I want to buy a set of 17" twist wheels in the not too distant future. So, I ended up going to NTB and having a set of Yokohama AV550V's put on. Not a horrible tire, but not near the traction of the Bridgestone Potenza RE730's that was on there. They do ride better, and since I don't track my car, they are kinda more fun bcz they are easier to hang out the rear end with and make cool noises at stoplights for my 3 and 7 year olds. For a 930, check out the Kumho's as they were highly recommended by several folks.

Here, let me see if I can put a stop to this nonsense. Last year, at the SCCA Solo II National Championships, 37 out of the top 50 drivers in the country, in the *only street tire class*, ran the Falken Azenis. You have to trust me on this one...they drive and grip *almost* like race rubber. They are cheap. They absolutely blow away anything offered by Bridgestone (I ran the RE 730 the year before I got the Azenis), Yoko, Kumho, you name it. The tires, in 15" size, are about $56 online.

The Azenis' biggest shortcoming is their lack of popular sizes. I think it has something to do with the really stiff sidewalls of the tire...like they can't make a profile low enough because of the design. Reportedly, they are coming out with a new version this year in more sizes.
