Default Battery Charger

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Charge -O- Mat can be used without the key in the ignition. I have a 89 911 and for me to keep the battery maintained I have to leave the keys in the ignition and turn it to auxillary mode for the charge to work. Does anyone have any idea if this is correct or am I doing something wrong. Can I maintain the charge without the keys in the ignition? I hate to have to leave my keys in the ignition.

thanks.

I use a Battery Tender brand....Just plug it it and it works....have never heard of a charger requiring you to have the keys left in the Ignition and turned to work....

I am not sure of either of these brands but I have a question . Do you plug these into the cigarette lighter ? and if you Do my next question is , IS the cigarette lighter powered with auxillary off? If the answer to the first is yes then I would suspect that the cigarette lighter needs dierect connection to power without being "switched power" to keep the battery charged.

It seems to me that the cigarette power is off unless you turn the keys to the auxillary position. You have to turn the keys slightly, but not where the dash lights are on. That's what I have had to do to maintain a battery charge.

I'm like Stormmaster, I use an external $15-$20 Wal-Mart trickle charger when it's going to sit for awhile.

Well there is your answer .. if you have no constant power to your lighter it is impossible to keep chargred. You have 2 options. rewire your lighter to constant power, use a trickl charger that connects right tot he battery. ( that is what I have .. )

Mine connects directly to the battery...forgot about the ones that plug into the lighter...
