Looking to buy a 78-82 911 for a barely street legal track day car. As a base I have found a 78 SC. It had been sitting for 2 years, outside. paint is faded, interior rough. It has not been turned over while sitting. Brakes were bad before it was "stored"
It was bought in Germany in 1980. No A/C.
I can do almost all the work myself. Just want an idea of what somethink like this would be worth. I know the cost to have this car restored would be prohibitive (at least that's what I told the owner).

Well since you can't verify the condition of the engine assume the worst. From other posts on this forum it seems $8-10K is the price for a quality rebuild. While searching the Atlanta area for my '86 I found SCs in poor but running condition for under $10K and cars with decent paint, interior, and an engine history for low to mid teens. I did find a Carrera in another town with 200K+ miles and a bad head for $5K.
If you haven't allready, buy and read Wayne's 101 projects and How to Rebuild and Modify your Porsche 911 Engine, Bruce Andersons Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, and Peter Zimmermans Used 911 story.
Have you tried looking for a street/track car here?

Sometimes there are track cars that some else has allready dumped $$$$$ into that you can get a good deal on.

Thanks for the input. From what I have learned the interior is pretty much shot. Pics indicate the paint is very faded. It has been at least 2 years since the motor was turned over, and of course it'll need the chain tensioner upgrade anyway so the motor will need to be dropped and looked into. I'm offering $2000 for the car as it sits. We'll see what happens.
