PRE-PURCHASE ADVICE

PRE-PURCHASE ADVICE
I am in the military currently stationed in Belgium.
I have found a 1985 Carrera Targa with 147,000 miles. It is a US spec vehicle brought to Belgium in 1991. The seller is asking $13,000.
The car appears clean and runs great.
I plan on getting a PPI at an independent garage in the next few days.
I would like to solicit this very informed crowd for items that I should be especially wary of.
I have read a few buyers guides and have found this forum immensely helpful, but would really appreciate some final pre-purchase advice.
I really appeciate any insight you can give.
Thanks,
Scott Nevins

Scott,
The Carrera's are pretty solid. I would want a leakdown test done as part of the pre-purchase inspection, as some of the earlier Carrera's had valve guide wear problems. With 147K on it, I'd also pay attention to the condition of the transmission, as rebuild time may be near (of course depending on how it's been used).
