Do new wheels require an alignment?
I currently have 16x6J (f) and 16x7J (r) Fuchs on my 1987 911. I want to move the 7's to the front and put 9's on the rear. Do I need to have an alignment done when I put the new wheels on? What is a reasonable price to pay to have a tire mounted and balanced? What is a reasonable price for an alignment? Thanks.

No alignment needed. Tire mounting & balancing can go from $15 to $30 per wheel. Remember, if you supply the tires the shop makes no profit on the job. Also remember that there are tire shops out there that do terrible work. I recently purchased a set of Bridgestones from a trusted Santa Monica tire dealer. The work was TERRIBLE, and I had to have re-balance work done in Bakersfield after a miserable drive across the Grapevine.

Another little trick I highly recommend is to keep your wheels perfectly clean and once they have been dynamically balanced, put silver duct tape over the stuck on weights. With the speeds we can do in a Porsche it's very easy for the foam backed weights to be flung off and there goes your balance, too. It's easy to tape over the weights,--and you can't see it from the front (outside), providing all the weights are added to the INSIDE of the wheel
