Angry Help with rubbing compound

I used a little rubbing compound on a small area where I had touched up some rock chips. It seems to do more damage than good. I used pressure about like with a sponge washing a dish. My scratch and swirl removing wax then fixed it.

How hard do you apply rubbing compound and what should the paint look like after? Smooth and good or like it was fine sandpaper you took to the paint.

I have to use something to clean up the scrathes made when sanding down the small areas of touch up paint. 1500 and 2000 grit.

thanks for any tips,

Use polishing compound. It is finer than rubbing compound.

Meguires make a nice one that you can get at Walmart.

For your Black 86, I highly recommend going over the area with 3M 1500 grit Rubbing Compound. This is available at Wal-Mart for about 7 bucks. Then use 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, PepBoys or mail order.
One Grand Blitz wax for the final finish, www.carcareonline for this, and anything else you might need, good site for info also.

3m is the best rubbing compund. when done, go over it with 3m glaze. then your favorite carnuba wax. and if you want to add some polish to the mix go for it. used the orbital buffer with the rubbing compound & glaze, then polished and waxed by hand, i did this.. and god damn did she come out nicely!
