Default 911sc fuel inject question re purchase

I was looking for a nice 911sc, owned one 10 years ago regret selling it my local porsche shop suggested i stay away from the sc and look at a 84 to 89 as he warned that the mech fuel injection system is getting very expansive to repair and replace 5k and i am sure to need expansive repairs in future not the case with the 84 to 89 p cars as well as the improved g50 in 87 to 89 your collective wisdom and thouhgts thanks

Dsher:

IMHO, your local Porsche shop offered you some very sound advice.

They are correct; Bosch CIS components are not cheap to replace if an SC is not exceptionally well maintained and the Motronic system, with all its complexity, is more troublefree over the long run.

I'd recommend ANY of the Carrera's, 84-89, with the G-50 cars being the best ones, depending on what you can spend.

I would not install carburetors unless I had specific performance goals in mind that required such things.

In other words,.............its all dependent on what you will use the car for and how you drive it. For most people, retaining the OEM FI is a better choice unless they are building a "hot-rod" type 911,...
